What is Live Chat?

Live Chat lets you communicate directly with customers visiting your website in real time, all from within your Superchat inbox. Customers can send text messages, images, files, and emojis — and every message arrives in Superchat alongside your other channels, so nothing is managed separately.

Live Chat works like any other communication channel in Superchat. It is always associated with an inbox and can be created and adjusted from your inbox settings. You can create as many Live Chat channels as you like and assign them to different inboxes — for example, one per location, brand, or company.

What can I use Live Chat for?

Live Chat works well on its own, but it becomes significantly more powerful when used alongside Superchat's automations and other channels. Here are some common ways businesses use it:

  • Collect contact details upfront — use an automation to greet new visitors and ask for their name, email, or phone number before a team member steps in. This means your team always knows who they are talking to. See Identify live chat contacts with automations

  • Hand off to another channel — if a conversation needs more time, you can automatically send the customer a WhatsApp link or QR code so the conversation can continue there, rather than keeping them waiting on the widget

  • Prompt for reviews — once an enquiry is resolved, an automation can follow up with satisfied customers and ask them to leave a review

  • Promote your WhatsApp channel — at the end of a chat, let customers know they can stay in touch via WhatsApp, helping you build longer-term relationships beyond the initial conversation
