When using WhatsApp Coexistence, your phone number is not directly connected to the WhatsApp Cloud API.
Instead, the WhatsApp Business App is linked to the API through Meta, allowing both systems to coexist. If you want to remove the coexistence setup or connect your number to another provider, you must first disconnect the partner integration in Meta.
Note: Disconnecting the coexistence connection does not delete your WhatsApp Business App account or conversations. It only removes the API integration with the partner (e.g., Superchat).
How WhatsApp Coexistence Works
When coexistence is enabled:
Your phone number remains inside the WhatsApp Business App
Meta creates a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) in your Business Portfolio
Superchat is linked to your WABA as a partner
Messages can be handled through both the WhatsApp Business App and the API
Because of this structure, removing coexistence requires disconnecting the partner integration in Meta.
Step 1: Disconnect the Partner in WhatsApp Business App
Go to your WhatsApp Business App, select Settings, Account and then Business Platforms.
Find Superchat in the partner list and select it
Click Continue
Then click Disconnect.
This removes the API partner connection and allows us to move over to the Meta Business Suite to finalise the disconnection.
Note: It can take a few minutes for the removal process to take place, so it is usually best to wait a couple of minutes before proceeding with the next step.
Step 2: Disconnect the WhatsApp Account in Meta Business Suite
Next, remove the connection to the WhatsApp Business Account.
Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite
Navigate to Accounts → WhatsApp Accounts → the connected WhatsApp account and then select Remove from business portfolio
That's it! The Coexistence connection is now disconnected.
What Happens After Disconnecting?
Your WhatsApp Business App remains active
Your phone number and chat history remain untouched
The API integration with the partner is removed
Put simply, all it does is end the connection between Meta and the API provider.
Important Limitation: WhatsApp Business Account Cannot Be Deleted
Due to a Meta limitation, the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) created during coexistence cannot be removed from Meta once it exists.
The WABA will remain linked to the phone number that was originally used. This, however, does not affect your ability to continue using the WhatsApp Business App.
