Contact attributes let you store and organise important information about your contacts - so you can personalise conversations, build better filters, and run targeted WhatsApp newsletter campaigns.

Why should I use contact attributes?

Use contact attributes in Superchat to:

  • Save key details about each contact (beyond just their name and phone).

  • Filter and segment contacts more precisely based on stored values.

  • Personalise interactions by pulling in saved information (e.g., preferences, signup date, industry).

Which contact attributes and data types are supported?

There are standard contact attributes, custom contact attributes and contact handles in Superchat. Standard attributes and contact handles cannot be renamed or deleted, while custom attributes can.

Standard Attributes are:

  • First Name

  • Last Name

  • Gender

Contact Handles are:

  • Email Address

  • Phone Number

  • Instagram Handle (read-only)

Custom Contact Attributes are individually created by yourself for your workspace and can have the following data types:

  • Text

  • Number

  • Date

  • Date and Time

  • Single-Select

  • Multi-Select

Create and manage contact attributes

To create a new contact attribute:

1. Go to Settings → Contacts → Contact Attributes.

2. Click New Contact Attribute.

3. Enter the name and select the data type (choosing the right one is important for filtering later).

Each contact attribute has:

  • A name (e.g., “Customer ID”, “Plan Type”).

  • A data type (choose carefully, as this affects filtering):

    • Text (text)

    • Number (enables range filters, like “greater than 50”; use text if you have numbers (eg. order numbers) that start with "0")

    • Single-Select (choose one value from a list)

    • Multi-Select (choose multiple values from a list)

    • Date (filter by specific dates)

    • Date + Time (filter by timestamps)

To edit or delete a contact attribute, click the corresponding edit or delete icon next to it.
