Best Practice: WhatsApp Quick Responses

What is a WhatsApp quick response? Where do I use a WhatsApp quick reply?

Introduction

WhatsApp quick replies are used as part of automations to set up different paths. When a contact selects one of these options, the chosen response is automatically sent in the chat and the intended path is started.

With a WhatsApp list, up to 10 options are available, whereas WhatsApp quick responses allow only up to 3. However, WhatsApp quick replies are more intuitive for contacts.

Instructions

  1. After the trigger in your automation, create a new node and select WhatsApp Quick Responses.

  2. Then, enter a message you would like to send to the contact. You can already fill in the first response option below.

  3. By click Add quick response, you can add up to three quick responses, with the ability to remove any of them as well.

  4. In the advanced settings, you can configure how many hours the user's input remains valid. This can be useful if you want to send a reminder to the user after 23 hours if they haven't responded to your message.

Additionally, you can display an error message to the contact if they send a different message instead of clicking on one of your responses.

You can then also configure the node so that you provide a path should there be an error sending the message.

  5. You can also set up a Footer to provide additional information beyond the initial message.

  6. You can then set up different next steps within the automation by clicking on the respective circle in the automation and defining the next step using drag and drop.

Important notes & limitations

  • A WhatsApp quick response can only be sent within an automation if the last message from your contact was less than 24 hours ago. If it has been longer, you must use a WhatsApp template.

  • If a contact selects an option within the WhatsApp quick response and later decides on a different option, they will not automatically be brought back to the same step in the automation that they reached before.
